Starting chapter books?
Is your little one ready to venture out from the safe world of picture books? Not sure where to start with chapter books?
Here's some of my four year old's early chapter book favourites:
Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems ... if your little one is a fan of Mo Willem's Pigeon picture book series then they will LOVE the Elephant and Piggie books. The text is mostly conversation bubbles, so if your child is starting to read then you can choose to be one character each while you read.
Hey Jack series by Sally Rippin. These are more your reader style books, there's heaps of different titles to choose from and lots of them are exploring feelings, things that happen at school etc
The Big Fat Cow that goes Kapow + The Cat on the Mat is Flat by Andy Griffiths, illustrated by Terry Denton. These are super silly, super fun, crazy rhyming books. I love listening to my little guy chuckle while we are reading these. We love making up our own silly rhyming words afterwards as well.
Billy and the Mini Monsters series by Zanna Davidson is our latest fun discovery. There was A LOT of laughing out loud whilst reading 'Monsters on the Loose'.
Hot Dog series by Anh Do has not too much text and super cool illustrations. My four year old's favourite is Hot Dog 2 - Party Time! There's lots of slapstick type comedy which definitely appeals to my son who thinks it's HILARIOUS! He's taken them to kinder to share with his friends too.
